    Q. Do your workmen speak English?
A. Yes, our foremen speak English. You can speak with and give special requests/instructions to the crew foreman.

Q. Do you bag the grass while mowing?
A. No. We are primarily a mulch only service, however, we can “scalp” lawns in the early spring upon request. There is an additional charge for this because it requires more time. Usually requires multiple passes with the mowers to achieve the desired result. In Arlington we have to dispose of the grass bags as well.

Q. Do your mowers leave cut grass piled on the lawn?
A. No. Our commercial grade mowers cut and mulch the grass into very fine particles that drop down to the soil level.

Q. How often do you mow?
A. We recommend weekly mowing during the primary growing season.  Grass should only loose 1/3 of total length during any one mowing.  When lawns go two weeks between mowing, the mowers will cut more length because the grass has grown taller.

Q. Will you mow every two weeks?
A. Yes. We understand that some customers want this service schedule and we will provide.  The “per service visit” price is higher for this because we have to mow more slowly and sometimes twice to achieve a nice cut.  Because the grass has grown taller than it would have in one week.

Q. Is “scalping” necessary?
A. It depends on whom you ask. The truth is it really does not matter. The most important thing is proper mowing, feeding and watering of the lawn throughout the year.

Q. How often should I water?
A. The best plan is to water less frequently but for a longer amount of time.  A good plan during the spring and summer is every 3 to 4 days watering long enough for a good soaking of the soil.  It is better to water 1 inch in 1 day than to water 1⁄4 inch over 4 days.  If we get a good rain during the week turn your sprinklers off and save your money!

Q. I like my lawn cut short. Will you do that?
A. Yes.  We will cut the lawn at whatever height you specify.  As a general rule we start the spring mowing fairly short then gradually raise the cutting height through the summer.  We like to leave a little more length over the winter to help insulate the roots.

Q. Do you keep you mower blades sharp?
A. Yes. We replace dull blades with a freshly sharpened blade daily during the peak-growing season.

Q. My neighbor’s lawn has ruts from the lawn mower.  Will this happen to my lawn?
A. No. We alternate the mowing direction on a 4-week, 4 direction interval. This helps to prevent ruts that develop after mowing the same direction week after week.

Q. Do you edge with a “blade” edger?
A. Yes.  We edge with a steel blade edger not a weedeater.

Q. Do you come on the same day each week?
A. Yes.  We will schedule recurring services on the same day each week  (tue.—fri.).  Weather permitting.

Q. What happens if you don’t come on the scheduled day?
A.  We will come the very next day even if that day is Saturday.  Weather (rain) is inevitable and does affect our schedule, though we have only rarely had to be more than one day late. Check our “important notices” page on this site for possible delay information.

Q. We keep our gate locked.  How should we handle this?
A. Please leave your gate unlocked on your scheduled service day.  If we do not arrive that day please leave the gate unlocked the following day. If you prefer, we can keep up with a key or combination to your gate so you don’t have to mess with locking and unlocking.

Q. What should we do with our backyard dog?
A. Dogs are certainly safer in the house when we are performing landscape services. However, we will still enter the backyard if a dog is present as long as the crewmen do not fell threatened. The crewmen are trained to shut the gate behind them when a dog is present.

Q. We have a lot of weeds; will pre-emergent take care of them?
A. Pre-emergent can be very effective against weeds that have not germinated (weeds you cant see).  Do not expect great results from one application. It generally takes a full year or longer of proper mowing, watering, fertilizing and pre-emergent to establish a healthy weed free lawn.

Q. How can we get rid of the weeds we have now?
A. Post emergent weed killer.  Usually a spray applied “spot on” or across the entire affected area is  effective against broadleaf and grassy weeds. Used primarily in Bermuda grass turf.

Q. What kind of grass do I have?
A. The two types of lawn grass used most often in N. Texas are St. Augustine and Bermuda.  Bermuda is native to this area and most common. It grows best in full sunlight conditions not in shade. It is has narrow blades, fine textured when compared to St. Augustine.  St. Augustine is native to S.E. coastal areas like Florida. These climates are warmer in the winter and receive rainfall more frequently.  Therefore, this grass requires more care to be grown in this area. It has a wide, heavy blade and grows up from “runners” that spread out across the ground. More shade tolerant, though does require partial sunlight at a minimum.

Q. What grass grows green all winter?
A. Rye grass or fescue.  The most common winter grass used is rye. It is grown by “over seeding” the primary turf in September.  It will grow green all winter and die out when temps. Reach and stay in the 90’s.  Fescue can be used the same way but not as popular.  It is sometimes used in very shady areas where no other grass will grow.  It works but does not do well in 90-degree temps.

Q. Why grow winter grass?
A. It looks nice! (primary reason)  also, a “side effect” of winter grass is weed prevention. A well maintained lawn would prevent weed growth by “choking out” or not providing space for weeds to grow.  This is what rye “winter” grass does by growing in virtually all the available space that a weed might use to grow. Remember, even if weeds do grow, it is much harder to spot them because the lawn is green not brown!

Q. When you “weed” the beds will you pull out the grass too?
A. We will pull everything we see that does not belong.  If you have grass in your beds it is most likely Bermuda.  Bermuda roots are next to impossible to pull out by hand; therefore you will soon see grass growing in the beds again.  To kill the roots they must be dug out or spray with herbicide that will kill Bermuda grass.

Q. I have Nutgrass. How do I get rid of it?
A. Spray it, don’t pull it.  In beds you can spray with image, in Bermuda grass spray with manage. This is the most difficult weed to control! These products are very expensive and will usually take more than one application to have good results. We can provide this service.

Q. I see some people cut back their crape myrtles, is this necessary?
A. No, this is a personal preference thing. The main reason to do this is to maintain their size.  Crape myrtles are trees and will become very tall if allowed to do so. We provide this service in late Jan./ early Feb. Before they begin to bloom.

Q. After a storm will you clean up the downed sticks, limbs and other debris?
A. Yes. This will be taken care of when we come around on our scheduled day. We will charge a small extra fee for this because it takes more time. We experienced an event like this in 2004 that knocked debris down all over town.

Q. Do you pick up trash while doing the landscape maintenance?
A. Yes.  Small bits of trash and/or soda cans in the yard or street will be picked up in order to leave the property looking nice.  There is no charge for this. Large amounts of trash in the front or back yard will be left alone unless we are specifically asked to haul it away. This would be considered an additional service.

Q. We would like to have a patio installed or some new landscaping added, do you do this?
A. We are primarily a landscape maintenance company.  While we do some very light installation work, we would refer you to someone we trust for any large-scale install or design work.

Q. How will I be billed?
A. We send an invoice once a month to you by mail. One invoice for services performed during each calendar month. If you don’t receive service during the winter months you will not receive an invoice.  A pre-addressed remittance envelope is included with every invoice.

Q. What forms of payment do you accept?
A. Check or money order. No cash, please (unless it is handed directly to the owner).

Q. Who is responsible for broken sprinkler heads?
A. If our crew or equipment break a sprinkler head we will replace it at no charge to you.  When you discover a head is broken call us first.  If the same head is broken more than once we will need to adjust its location or re enforce it so that normal activity no longer affects it.  Properly adjusted heads will not break or be hit by lawn equipment.

Q. We are having a party and would like our lawn mowed on a different day.  Will you do this?
A. Yes.  Please call a day or two ahead of the day you need the service and we can make arrangements.

Q. Normally the lawn is cut by the time I get home from work.  How late should I expect you?
A. Any given day we may work until dark. In the summer time this may be 8:00pm or later. In winter 6:00pm.  We do not like to work this late but due to delays this may happen.  On a regular basis we will be finished by aprox. 6:00pm.

Q. How early do you start working?
A. In the spring/summer we will be arriving at the first house by 7:15am.  Winter we start about an hour later.

Q. I like lawn service done a certain way, can you accommodate my requests?
A. Yes. If you need to “fine tune” the service a specific way please call and describe what you need. We will make every effort to keep you happy.

Q. Do you trim all types of shrubs?                                                                                           A. Yes.

Q. When is the best time to trim my shrubs?
A. Most shrubs can be trimmed any time of year.  There are exceptions to this.  Azaleas should only be trimmed in late summer after the blooms are gone, but before the new buds appear.  Crape myrtle should be trimmed in winter before blooms appear.  Other shrubs like Indian hawthorn flower in spring/summer and though it’s not harmful to trim them in bloom, you will loose the color and not see it again until next year.

Q. What do you use to trim shrubs?
A. Power trimmers are used for most shrubs.  Exceptions include nandina, which need to be pruned by hand.  Also crape myrtle is pruned by hand.  There are various other plants that we can prune but only by hand.

Q. What is the best way to get some color in my yard?
A. Annuals.  Flowers that are specific for warm season include: Begonia, Impatiens, Zinnia, Purslane and Moss Rose. These can be used solely or in combination. The amount of sunlight is key to the choice.  Cool season color : pansies and kale (flowering cabbage) are the best choice and do well in cold temps.  Many color choices are available with these flowers.  These are sold by the “flat” 18 - 4” pots.  One flower plant per pot.

Q. Do you do flower planting?
A. Yes.  We can purchase and plant the annuals for you. You can choose your colors and design or we can do that for you.

Q. Do you rake leaves?
A.  Yes. Seasonal or leaf cleanup is the term we use.  We use rakes and blowers to get them then bag the leaves.  We try to get all the leaves out from under shrubs and in those tight places not easily accessible.  We finish by mowing the lawn to give it a “vacuumed” look.  The bags are stacked neatly at the curb for trash pick up.

Q. Will the trash guys pick up leaves?
A. Yes. Right now Arlington has voluntary leaf bag drop off stations. The other cities we work in all pick up leaves.  This may change in the future. If so, we will change our procedure to fit.

Q. Will the trash guys pick up bags of grass?
A. In Mansfield they will.  Arlington they do not.
